I only asked about the airports because I found during testing before release that some addon airports have the localizer ending in the middle of the runway and not at the end of the runway (I found that out because I suddenly found myself testing the Extended's offroading capabilities one time ). For Rollout Mode all it does is follow the localizer down the runway, so the MAGVAR data shouldn't effect it, as I believe that is just for changing the numbers of the courses, but I'll ask around about that to be sure.

I always had 1.04 installed as soon as it was released, and only just today I wanted to make sure AXE was installed completely correctly so I un-installed it and re-installed it with virus software turned off, and running as administrator. The only thing I can see that might cause /any/ weirdness would be I have updated MAGVAR data, but I think this would only affect how the runway appears on the ND. The CC on my Bristol landing last night was 18.8, and that was fine, and certainly not dry!Ĭould there possibly be any kind of 'stuck' signal from your rudder input that only becomes apparent once the aircraft is not auto-trimming it out? i.e when it affects the nose-wheel steering, maybe?Īs far as I'm aware it's been any airport, addon or not. 20 dry is indeed the max CC that I've been told by a RL bus-flying friend (and confirms what - said above). Even taking the worst case 324/18 (as shown on your ND) that's still only 13.2kts. In your case (KIAD), rwy 01C magnetic is 011 deg, with winds 335/18 that's a crosswind component of 10.6kts - well within limits. No input from me until then (at which time I disco'd the AP and drove the bus to the terminal.) Reversers off at 70kt call from FO, still straight. APs left on, ROLLOUT indicated, and straight down the line.
Retard at 20ft, auto-spoilers, then reverse-thrust manually when I knew the nose-wheel was down. Assuming a runway magnetic heading of 103 deg, that's a 5.4 crosswind component. Just done a landing on rwy 10 at New Orleans Intl (KMSY) as part of a test for a different problem - and the winds were 140deg 9kts. This is a useful post for crosswind landing on modern planes. I'll do some more testing and get some pictures as well. Every time I've tried it the plane just quickly whips either left or right and goes off the runway unless I control it quickly with the pedals. Well done development-guys - this plane is now my all-time favourite on FSX.
I'm running v1.04 (which if I may say so appears to be a thousand times more stable in the approach/landing phase than the hotfixed 1.03b was, even two nights ago. In short - yes - rollout mode works, and works well. I know that when I took over (AP off), I didn't do quite as good a job, even at sub-70kts!
With AP still on, she maintained a straight-ahead condition in the rollout whilst I fumbled around for the reverse-thrust (which doesn't seem to work on my FSUIPC/FSX setting anymore, so I'll have to look into that!) I can't remember whether she was precisely down-the-centreline, but she was certainly 'straight ahead' - which is good enough for me. Then she whipped around nicely, lined up, and settled like a leaf landing on a pond (the runway was wet-wet-wet!). I remember seeing the landing light shining out to left side of the runway out on the grass - reinforcing the fact that we were crabbed quite substantially.

Just done a landing on 27 at Bristol (EGGD) with a crosswind of around 19 kts ( rwy 27), CAT III, full autoland, and noticed we were crabbing all the way down to about 20-30 ft (can't remember precisely, but it was around the 'RETARD' callout, so I was a tad preoccupied). I'm still slightly stuck on Boeing philosophy of having an ALIGN mode right before landing to de-crab the airplane, and then the ROLLOUT mode holding the airplane on the centerline. So I figure "Well, use the rudder then!", well that de-activates the autopilot, and subsiquently the Roll Out mode, so I'm a little confused on why it's even there. More often than not this is made worse by the fact that the airplane was crabbing into the wind, and it almost always seems to land crooked.

I have no idea if this is actually how it works but every time I've tried to do an Autoland, once the wheels touch down the Roll Out mode engages, in the manual it says that "centerline guidance is provided", does this mean the aircraft attempts to follow the centerline by itself? Or is it guidance for the pilot to use the foot pedals in bad weather?īecause when I do an Autoland, the aircraft touches down, Roll Out mode engages, and then the 'Bus just drives straight off the runway. I've been flying the Airbus for awhile now and I'm slightly confused about it's use. I had a question about the Roll Out mode during an Autoland.
